Where to start
Start with the PA Foundation. One application covers eight awards, and you can apply for each one you qualify for. Then check your state PA society, since several state awards close before the Foundation opens. California's endowed awards close December 11, 2026, and Arizona's closes January 16, 2027.
Add the specialty society for any field you plan to enter, then ask your program's financial aid office about its own awards. Many program pages name an award without giving an amount or a process. A date from the last cycle helps you estimate the next one, but confirm it on the sponsor's page.

Before you apply or accept
Tell your financial aid office. An outside scholarship can create an overaward, and the school may have to change your federal aid. Federal guidance tells schools to reduce borrowing first, beginning with unsubsidized loans.[1]
Plan for taxes. A scholarship is generally tax-free for a degree candidate when it pays required tuition and fees. Money used for room, board or travel counts as income, and so do payments for required services, with exceptions that include the NHSC Scholarship Program and the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program.[2]
Read any service terms. The largest awards here require work after graduation. Compare the required site, location and length with where you want to practice before you sign.
Budget for dues. Many awards require membership in AAPA, a state society or a specialty society. Check the rule early, since some sponsors expect you to be a member when you apply.
